Schemes for Priority Sector
Growth Center Schemes
In order to promote industrialisation of backward areas, the central Governments announced in June 1988 the scheme for establishment 70 Growth Centres throughout the country. Each growth centre would be bestowed with the best of infrastructural facilities to facilitate and promote industrial growth.
Backward Area
A Study Group identified Backward Districts based on districts as they stood in the Census Report of 1991.

North Eastern Schemes
A coordination committee for industrialization of the North Eastern states, Sikkim and Hills states has been set up to promote this sector. The North Eastern Industrial Policy was approved by the cabinet on November 20,1997. Many schemes have been proposed by the SSI Ministry and Centre.

Promotional Schemes for Women
A special women cell has been opened to provide coordination and assistance by SIDO. Several EDP programmes are conducted to introduce process/product EDPs.
An out standing women entrepreneur award has been constituted to recognize the achievements by women entrepreneurs.
