INSTITUTE FOR DESIGN OF ELECTRICAL MEASURING INSTRUMENTS (IDEMI)-MUMBAI

Institute for Design of Electrical Measuring Instruments (IDEMI), Mumbai has been set up in 1969 in collaboration with United National Development Programme as a Government of India Society under the Societies Registration Act 1860 with the objective to render technical services to Instrument Industries in general and small scale industries in particular.

Objectives

The main areas of activity both in services and training are:-

• Calibration and Testing Electric Measuring Instruments, Process Control Instruments, etc. for maintaining the accuracy within expected limits.
• Technical Consultancy in Design Development & Prototype Fabrication of various instruments.
• Conducting short-term training courses in the field of Instrumentation and Quality Control.

DESIGN & DEVELOPMENT

• Design & Development of sponsored products.
• Computerised Plotting of Engineering Drawings, Architectural Drawings & Layouts.
• Batch Production of Developed Product and Specialised Coil Winding Jobs.

1. The Training division of the Institute conducted number of residential programmes on Accreditation in association with NABL/DST. The National Accreditation & Board for Testing and Calibration Laboratories (NABL) of the Deptt. of Science & Technology, Govt. of India has recognised IDEMI as a Regional Centre for conducting various courses on Accreditation of laboratories.
2. Number of National Seminars were conducted by IDEMI on the following subjects:

1. An Insight into the state- of- art Machining in Tool Manufacturing
2. Flow Metering, Computation & Automation
3. Proficiency Testing for Testing Laboratories
4. Instrument Transformers-Present and future trends
5. Electrical & Communication Cables- Present and future trends

3. A state- of- art equipment installed in Process Control Instrument Laboratory for calibration of Dead Weight Tester.


4. The Electrical Testing Laboratory has installed an ELTEL make CT/PT testing system for testing of Instrument Transformers.


5. A state- of- art 5 Axis CNC Wire Cut EDM Machine has been installed and commissioned in the Mechanical Workshop/Tool Room .


6. Mechanical Workshop has manufactured precision Gimbal Flextures for the Intertial systems,guidance, ISRO, Thiruvanthapuram


7. A eight cavity injection mould for valve and valve button (family mould) has been designed manufactured and supplied . This is an import substitute item.


8. A single cavity die casting die for manifold of spray gun has been designed, manufactured and supplied.


9. The process control instrument Laboratory completed the yearly contract for 1999-2000 which include calibration of Flow Recorders installed by ONGC at their different installation in Trombay Terminal


10. The design and development department in association with the mechanical workshop developed various types of position census for the reactor projects , group of BARC.
