The Process and Product Development Agra was set up in later half of 1985 with the assistance of UNDP/UNIDO as an establishment of SIDO and later converted into an autonomous body in the year 1986.

The main objective of PPDC Agra is the provision of technological upgradation of small scale casting and forging industries. The technological support include I) Process and Product Development related to Foundry and Forging industries, ii) improving the designs and working operation of Cupola furnaces to reduce air pollution in foundry industries, iii) Testing facilities for raw materials, cast &forged components and engineering products to meet national and international standards, iv) consultancy, cost reduction, etc. (v) Dissemination of technological information through seminars/workshops etc. (vi) training of manpower employed in SSI foundry and forging industries.

The working of PPDC Agra assumes further importance in view of the recent Supreme Court Order asking the polluting foundries in the Taj trapezium area to switch over to natural gas or relocate themselves outside the Taj Trapezium Zone. The Centre on its part has developed energy efficient divided blast cupola with pollution abatement system for small scale foundry units to meet the stringent pollution control Board Norms. The Center is also assisting in the development of suitable technology for the use of CNG in the foundries apart from developing the specific products in the area of casting and forging.
